Getting to know William Shryer

I have great experience in the areas of OCD (graduate of the IOCDF training in both adult and child OCD). I also specialize in integrative mental health, looking at medical, genetic, and epigenetic factors. My other area of specialty is working with both adult and child autistic spectrum disorders, focusing specifically on Asperger's Syndrome. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of California, Berkeley.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am no nonsense so if they are looking for psychobabble and non problem solving approaches I am not what you are looking for. I am vested in working with those that are highly motivated to find the life they want. I work from a cognitive behavioral approach and integrate the latest information from clinical neuroscience and research into my practice. I am open and engaging with those that are ready to work.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session would begin with a checking in, a review of what was discussed in prior session and how implementing change is working for them. We may want to look at any obstacles to change they foresee and how making changes will impact those they care about. In reaching a diagnostic impression I would want to take a comprehensive history of all blood relatives, and review symptom history and what has been tried in the past.
