Getting to know Yufei Liu

Hello, I’m Yufei (Rain) Liu, a mental health counselor who works at the intersection of psychological distress and trauma. I believe that lived experiences of pain, struggle, and survival carry profound meaning, and they continue to shape my commitment to this work. Because I understand how isolating it can feel to live at the margins of communities and one’s inner world, I strive to offer a therapeutic space grounded in safety, warmth, and genuine connection. Trained in New York and experienced in working with diverse cultural backgrounds, I value both personal resilience and the importance of being deeply seen and understood. My clinical approach is informed by psychodynamic therapy with a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, as well as IFS, which allows us to gently explore trauma, integrate fragmented parts, and connect past experiences with present challenges and future possibilities.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I provide psychotherapy services only and do not prescribe medication. Our first appointment is a free 15-minute call to make sure I am the right fit for you. Some wounds do not announce themselves. They settle quietly into the body, shape the way we relate, and linger in the spaces where words once felt unsafe or unavailable. You may have learned to survive by staying composed, by minimizing your pain, or by carrying experiences that were never fully seen. Therapy can become a place where you are no longer asked to endure in silence, a space to listen gently to what has been held back, and to allow your inner world to be met with care rather than urgency. You are not expected to arrive with clarity, only a willingness to begin where you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Alongside this depth, my work is grounded, collaborative, and paced with intention. We focus on building safety first, attending to what feels most present in your daily life, and moving only as quickly as feels manageable. Our work together may involve slowing down, noticing emotional and bodily responses, and building tolerance for experiences that once felt overwhelming. Some sessions may feel reflective and exploratory, while others may focus on stabilization, coping, and grounding. We will regularly check in about what feels helpful and adjust our work accordingly. My goal is not to “fix” you, but to support greater integration, self-understanding, and a sense of agency in your life.
