Getting to know Yuqing (Amy) Jiang

Hi, I’m Yuqing (Amy)! I’m a bilingual Mandarin-English therapist working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, complex emotions, relationships, identity, trauma, and life transitions, with particular sensitivity to Asian and cross-cultural experiences. My approach is grounded in person-centered therapy, while integrating relational, experiential, and psychodynamic work with evidence-based tools such as CBT to meet your unique needs. In therapy, I won’t rush to “fix” you or make difficult emotions disappear. Together, we can explore not only “What can I do about this?” but also “Where might this be coming from, and what is it telling me?” I’ll listen closely while also offering reflections, observations, and practical tools when helpful. My hope is to help you better understand your inner world, develop a different relationship with your emotions, and find a path toward change that feels meaningful to you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

One thing to know about working with me is that I’m more interested in understanding you as a whole person than defining you by a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. I don’t believe there is one “right” way to do therapy, or that every difficult emotion is a problem that needs to be eliminated. Sometimes our emotions—even the uncomfortable or confusing ones—carry important information about our needs, experiences, and relationships. My style is warm, curious, exploratory, and collaborative. I see therapy as a shared process rather than a place where I, as the therapist, have all the answers. I’ll bring my training, perspective, and curiosity, while you bring an expertise no therapist can replace: your lived experience of being you. Together, we can slow down, make space for complexity and uncertainty, and explore what makes sense for you rather than trying to fit you into a predetermined idea of what healing or progress “should” look like.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, I won’t rush to define what is “wrong” or jump immediately into interventions. Instead, I’ll take time to listen and explore what has brought you to therapy, while offering reflections, questions, and observations along the way. Together, we’ll gradually develop a shared understanding of what you’re experiencing and what feels most important to explore. As therapy progresses, our conversations often deepen. We may begin with “How can I feel better right now?” and gradually become curious about where certain emotions, struggles, or patterns come from and what might lie beneath them. I sometimes think of this process as moving from the leaves of a tree toward its roots—not because every problem has one hidden cause, but because understanding what lies beneath can change how we experience what is happening on the surface. I tend to see the 50 minutes we spend together as an important space for this work to happen, rather than relying heavily on homework between sessions. That said, if structure, exercises, or between-session practices feel helpful to you, I’m always open to incorporating them in a way that fits your needs and our work together.
