I have been in the field of mental health for 12 years. I started my career in a residential facility for people with substance abuse issues. This was during the height of the Oxycontin epidemic. I became a certified substance abuse counselor to continue to help those dealing with substance abuse. I moved to an outpatient treatment facility and worked with people from all walks of life. I later moved to work with children dealing with trauma from physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse in a residential facility. I extended my training into equine assisted therapy and applied this training to working with the children at the facility. I was trained in play therapy during this period as it is a modality that can help children, especially, and people of all ages. I worked with children, and now adults and children, that are Autistic that need someone to take the time and care to meet them where they are to help them reach their goals and manage issues as they arise. I have worked with veterans and others with PTSD and utilize EMDR to assist with navigating their trauma to live healthier, fuller lives. Throughout my career I have been able to work with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds and this has helped me provide services to more people with a better understanding of their needs and concerns regarding family and cultural expectations. Working with families and couples is another way that I have been able to expand my skills to help not just individuals but the partnerships in their lives as well.
