Zoe Reyes, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I am a bicultural and bilingual (English and Spanish speaking) psychotherapist. I was born and raised in New York City. My parents are hard-working, warm-hearted, lively-spirited immigrants from Puerto Rico. I knew I wanted to be a therapist at the age of 14 since I was always trying to help friends with their problems. I earned my Master's in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University, which laid the foundation for my professional journey. I spent several years working at non-profit organizations as a Case Manager in programs that provided social services for families involved with or at risk of foster care, as well as medical and social services for persons with HIV/AIDS. I later transitioned to hospital-based mental health clinics, where I provided psychotherapy services for children and adults. I am grateful for all the professional experience I gained from my past employment because it prepared me for private practice. Although there have been and continue to be many challenges, I believe things happen exactly the way they need to happen for the greater good. I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy strategies to help clients gain more insight into themselves and their circumstances to facilitate change. I also use spiritually informed therapy with those who want to incorporate that into their journey. Clients have shared that they appreciate my ability to make them laugh in hard times and find hope, joy, and light in darkness. I consider their words among the most important compliments I have ever received.

What should a new client know about working with you?

PLEASE NOTE: I AM ONLY TAKING CLIENTS IN NEW YORK STATE. I consider myself a cross between a cheerleader and a drill sergeant. My style is directive. I also believe in empowering my clients to take action to move towards their goals, being honest and using humor as much as possible. Also, I love food, dancing to 90s salsa, hip hop and R&B and traveling so I make reference to those things often :)

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use Cognitive-Behavioral therapy strategies to help clients gain more insight into themselves and their circumstances to facilitate change. I also use spiritually informed therapy with those who want to incorporate that into their journey.
