Getting to know Allyssa Rivera

I provide a warm, embodied approach, inviting adults and adolescents to creatively explore their strengths and needs and address relationships, identity, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, substance use, and life transitions. I collaborate with clients to develop an environment that fosters curiosity, growth, and radical acceptance of all parts of the Self.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I offer an embodied presence and space for you to creatively sort through any areas in your life that need attention, processing, and balance. Meeting you where you are, we will honor, strengthen, and discover together the manners in which you feel most empowered to express your authenticity and embody optimal health in your mind-body connection. After our first session, wherein we will discuss your challenges and intentions for our work together, we will develop a breathable and fluid treatment plan with short and long-term goals that feel realistic, grounding, and exciting! Somatic practices and the creative process will always be at your disposal to create an integrative experience that supports greater wellness and vitality in body, mind, and spirit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide talk therapy with the option of combining elements of dance/movement therapy (D/MT). Dance/movement therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of dance and movement to support emotional, physical, social, and cognitive integration. Like all bodies, a D/MT session can take many forms depending on your needs, comforts, and treatment goals. We may simply bring attention to the body, to feelings, and to the sensations that arise when engaging in verbal processes in an effort to reveal the roots of unhealthy reactions, behaviors, and habits. If interested, we could use movement, improvisational dance, and embodied storytelling to give expression and bring light to patterns, beliefs, and past trauma hidden in the body and in the unconscious. In these creative processes of gathering information and wisdom from the body, we will explore conscious and embodied decision-making that serves your wellbeing. D/MT can also take the form of mindfulness practices, breathwork, stress, and anxiety-relieving techniques.
