June Thompson, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a licensed psychotherapist with over 20 years of clinical practice, an AAMFT-approved clinical supervisor, and a researcher in human behavior. My background is interdisciplinary, holding master’s degrees in both Marriage and Family Therapy and Human and Environmental Geography. I am highly analytical, compassionate, and nonjudgmental. I view individuals through a systemic lens, helping them understand their emotional and behavioral responses within the context of their lives and environments. Hobbies: I love the outdoors and enjoy backpacking and going on road trips with my dog. I teach outdoor skills in a wilderness class each winter. I also love California native plants and am a trained naturalist. Experience and Specialties: I have many years of experience working with those struggling with symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as those navigating complicated relationships. I have extensive experience treating men’s and women’s issues specifically, as well as working with retired military professionals. Treating AI-related technology concerns: I also specialize in the emerging field of adverse reactions to technology, including social media, large language models (LLMs), and AI companions, and how these affect human functioning and mental health. I have observed a rise in negative emotional and behavioral reactions linked to technology use over many years, increasing especially in 2025. I help clients learn healthy boundaries with technology and evaluate the quality of their digital relationships, as well as the effects on their external relational and mental lives.

What should a new client know about working with you?

**Billing and insurance verification for therapy sessions are managed through Headway. New clients will receive a separate email or message to set up their billing profile after booking." During the therapeutic process, we will spend time getting to know each other as well as reviewing assessment paperwork, determining clinical goals and touch lightly on relevant family history.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use a warm and honest approach with humor to lighten tough issues that often bring up feelings of shame or "feeling different." Normalizing the human experience is extremely important in my practice. In addition, I use structured CBT and DBT approaches among other techniques to help clients create goals and address thought patterns that are self-blaming.
