About Dr. Abed Namavari
Dr. Abed Namavari is a medical doctor and surgeon, a board-certified ophthalmologist, and a fellowship-trained retina specialist.
Dr Namavari received a Medical Degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and completed a transitional year at the Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He finished his ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with a medical retina fellowship from the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, the highest-ranked ophthalmology program in the US. He then moved to Colorado and founded the Colorado Eye Clinic to provide personalized eye care to the community.
Dr. Namavari has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals including Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Ophthalmology and Retina. He has presented at multiple conferences including the Association of Research for Vision and Ophthalmology. He has participated as co-investigator in multiple clinical trials for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Namavari is fluent in English and Farsi. He enjoys swimming and spending time outdoors with his family and their dog.

I came in with significant eye swelling and was told by urgent care to see an ophthalmologist ASAP to rule out shingles. I was relieved to get a same-day appointment. However, as someone who had never seen an ophthalmologist before, I was shocked when he began using instruments that touched my eyes without explaining anything. It felt invasive and uncomfortable. He ruled out shingles and prescribed antibiotics, but when I asked about yeast infections—a common side effect for women—he seemed unaware, which was concerning.
At my follow-up, he didn’t remember me or the prior visit and even had me redo the intake paperwork. Most swelling was gone, yet he suddenly said it was shingles and prescribed an antiviral, contradicting his initial diagnosis. While he requested another follow-up, I will not be returning due to these inconsistencies.

I scheduled an eye exam, but when I arrived, the receptionist asked me to pay upfront as a deposit before seeing the doctor. I showed her my vision insurance, and she didn’t mention that they don’t accept it. All she said was, “Hopefully your insurance will pay you back.” I asked her three times to confirm, and she still didn’t explain that they only bill through medical insurance. When I called for clarification, the doctor was unprofessional and dismissive. Completely frustrating experience.

- Doctor didn’t wear gloves and was going between touching equipment and my face without washing hands or using sanitizer
- dismissive of symptoms and instead tried to get me to do a treatment not covered by insurance to reduce clogged glands. when i pushed him on whether this would address my main symptom he acknowledged it would not.
- we discussed that if my symptoms continued to contact him, which i did, and he wanted me to come back to the office even though it was clearly an infection. Went to a primary care provider today and they confirmed the infection diagnosis.

I would not recommend this doctor. My first appointment he said I had a blocked tear duct. When I came in for the next appointment to get this fixed, all of the sudden I this wrong and that wrong and I needed to buy, an expensive eye heating pad not covered by Medicare. Started doing suggestions from YouTube about clearing this up and it's helped a lot. Went to another doctor and got the tube in.
He just wants money. He deals with seniors, and you don't snap your fingers and that person and tell them to pay attention. I'm embarrassed I went to him.

I would say it was a very interesting experience and I was ready to get out due to feeling very uncomfortable. As someone who works in healthcare I was uncomfortable when he opening by eye without gloves on(no sanitizer prior or after and was touching stuff ), he wipes down the machines before you use it but not after he uses it on you. Made me do different eye tests prior to telling me why and what for. They also charge you prior to charging insurance. Very odd very uncomfortable- did explain what was wrong but using google imagine instead of the images he took on my eye. I get it’s a private practice but it was just him and the girl at the front. Not sure if she was a nurse or what because she didn’t say. You’re in one exam room then takes you into a room that has a bunch of eye test machines. I was just ready to get out, eye stuff makes me uncomfortable but it was the lack of explaining, sanitary and off putting comments saying “I don’t look like I understand” when I did…
