Ambica Sastry, MD, is an obstetrician-gynecologist in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside. Dr. Sastry practices general obstetrics and gynecology and has special interest in contraception and abnormal uterine bleeding. Dr. Sastry cares for obstetric patients throughout pregnancy, from prenatal to postpartum care, and is certified in laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Sastry comes to Mount Sinai from Baylor College of Medicine, where she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. While there, she was named Family Planning Resident of the Year. She earned her medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2016.
Dr. Sastry recently was published in the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia and is co-authoring a book chapter included in Operative Techniques in Obstetrics Surgery. Dr. Sastry is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

I waited several months for an appointment with Dr. Sastry and she is 100% worth the wait. She was on time and so thorough and had already looked through my medical history prior to my appointment. She was patient, listened to all of my concerns, and provided thoughtful follow up plans. She also caught a health issue unrelated to my Pap smear that even my primary hadn’t noticed - so thorough!
The front desk staff was also very kind and friendly. I have nothing but positive things to say about my appointment (which means a lot considering my annual gyn appointment is normally one of my least favorite days of the year). So happy I found Dr. Sastry!

I've never been happier with an OBGYN visit. Dr. Sastry is thorough, knowledgeable, and took my concerns seriously. She managed expectations for the appointment perfectly, gave reassurance as needed without being condescending, and offered tangible solutions. And to top it all off, I think she is the first OBGYN I've seen that actually explicitly asked for consent before doing each individual step of the exam, so I felt extremely safe and respected in her care. Historically, OBGYN appointments have been negative experiences for me, but this appointment was downright pleasant. Cannot recommend her more.

Dr. Sastry's bedside manner was incredibly comforting and warm, making one of my first experiences with an OB-GYN go smoothly without issue. It's clear she loves and respects her practice to ensure her patients receive the care they need by approaching it in a friendly way and was happy to keep talking to me with her own recommendations from any concerns I have. The receptionists at her location were also very professional and polite.

Dr. Sastry is so calming and reassuring. She took the time to address my concerns and didn’t rush my visit. She is so kind and made going to the doctor not seem so daunting. She explained everything thoroughly and walked me through the whole assessment. I highly recommend her!

I have a recurring bartholin cyst, and this is the first time I have been to a doctor who was able to drain it without it being massive and infected. I was nervous about the procedure because I had many bad experiences with this procedure in the past. However, Dr. Sastry took her time and made it incredibly easy for me. The draining was virtually painless. I have been to Dr. Sastry a few times now, and she is always up to date on my chart, and pays close attention to my concerns. She answers my questions with patience and clarity. I feel lucky to have found a good OBGYN in the Mt. Sinai network.

My appointment with Dr. Sastry was one of the best interactions I've ever had with a healthcare provider. She was patient and warm and you can tell she really prioritizes making her patients feel safe and comfortable during very vulnerable appointments. She was thorough in her examination and in looking over my personal and family history, taking the time to make sure I felt supported in both my immediate and long-term preventative care next steps. I'm ready to run off and recommend her to anyone I know looking for an OBGYN.
Some of the office procedures were a bit confusing for a first-timer, such as the location and use of a touch screen check-in -- this could have been because I had an early morning appointment, but there was no one at the front desk for about 5 minutes after my arrival. However, my interactions with office staff were very pleasant.

Had to switch to a new OBGYN because my Insurance changed and Dr. Sastry seems great so far. She listened to my concerns, asked pertinent questions and gave sound recommendations based on my needs. She’s young, intelligent and wants the best for her patients.
