Dr. Andrew Nocita, PhD

Psychotherapist
PA
Hello, I'm Andrew Nocita. I am a licensed psychologist and a Certified Allied Addiction Practitioner (CAAP), in practice since 1988. I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and my addiction certification from the Pennsylvania Certification Board in 1994. My approach My foundational therapeutic approach is Person-Centered, and I take a holistic perspective with my clients to address the health of body, mind, and spirit. I believe that a solid therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is a crucial part of the healing process and that techniques and therapy approaches must “fit” the client in order to be effective—there is no “one size fits all” therapy. My focus I work with people experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, life stress, and problems that involve substance use and psychological problems. I am open to exploring questions involving spirituality and religion as well. My communication style My goal, as a counselor and therapist, is to deeply understand my client, and when this happens we are able to identify areas of life that need to be changed, and ways of going about doing that. Therapy is a collaborative process between a trained therapist and a client who wants to change. My journey to mental healthcare I first became interested in working with people as a psychology student, many years ago. I worked on a crisis hotline and was fascinated by the work. That led to my applying to graduate programs in clinical psychology. Over the years I have worked with people who have severe mental illnesses, as well as those going through life transitions or dealing with daily stress. I still love my work after 35 years. My goals for you It's important for the client and therapist to work together in choosing goals. Therapy needs to be focused on meeting a person's needs; the therapist provides guidance and the client provides inside knowledge for the formation of goals.
