About Dr. Anjan Chakrabarty
My path to medicine was anything but conventional, and I think that's what makes me a better physician. My college degrees were in chemistry and geology, and after graduation I spent a decade working in the computer and pharmaceutical industries. Then came September 11, 2001. In the aftermath, I became an emergency medical technician and paramedic to feel more useful during emergencies, and that experience opened my eyes to how much I genuinely connected with medicine and the people I was helping. With the encouragement of my wife, I made the decision to change course entirely and pursue medical school. I had always enjoyed caring for adults, but when my son was born during my training, I found myself wanting to understand pediatric medicine just as deeply. That motivation led me to complete a dual residency in adult internal medicine and pediatrics, a combination that allows me to care for patients across the full spectrum of life. Coming into medicine at a later stage in my career means I bring a perspective that's a little more uncommon. My years in other industries shaped how I approach problems, communicate and connect with people. And having personally navigated serious health challenges within my own family, including supporting a parent through a terminal illness, it's impossible for me to see a patient without also understanding what it feels like to be on the other side of that conversation. I carry both viewpoints into every visit: that of a physician and that of a patient's family member. Outside of work, I am married to a veterinarian, and we have a son. After years of COVID-related delays, we've been making up for lost time with traveling. Recent trips have taken us to Japan, Iceland, Austria and Germany, and we're always planning the next destination.
