Dr. Blake Schermer grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. Inspired by his hometown optometrist, he began his path in optometry by obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Ohio University, graduating cum laude in 2006. He then earned his Doctor of Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2010.
Dr. Schermer practiced in Cincinnati, Ohio, for two years before moving to Washington, D.C., in 2013. He brings over 11 years of diverse experience practicing in boutique optical settings, ophthalmology clinics, and private optometry practices.
In addition to providing comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages, Dr. Schermer's clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye disease. He also has a passion for myopia management and fitting specialty contact lenses for patients with keratoconus and irregular corneas.
When not in the clinic, Dr. Schermer enjoys hiking, cooking, live music, and spending time with family and friends.

My experience with Dr. Schermer went really well. He was super nice and provided me with assurance that my prescription glasses would benefit me. The sales rep also looked for ways to help me the best frames and lens that wouldn’t be overly priced. Will definitely return back to them for my annual eye exam.

I’ve never had an eye exam before and didn’t really know what to expect. All the exams were uncomfortable since I have sensitivity to light but the nurse and doctor both made sure I was as comfortable as possible and kept me informed throughout.
The lady in the front also so patiently helped me look through so many options and pick my first pair of glasses. It was overwhelming at first not knowing what to do or get on top of having blurry vision due to the eye dilation procedure, but in the end I felt like I was just having fun shopping with someone that cared about me. I appreciated her walking me through the different options and her recommendations especially for someone as forgetful and clumsy as I am.
I don’t know if this experience is typical at all other eye places but it was for sure a great one and I truly recommend this practice and it’s staff.

Dr. Schermer is fine as a doctor. Which is a shame, because I will not be returning based on the poor treatment/ attitude/ lack of transparency of the office staff. The office staff and the way the office is run need work.
The doc should set aside a time when phone inquiries will be addressed if they cannot answer a question. I have called several times, but somehow my questions never get answered/ calls returned. We are talking days. And when it has to do with your eyes, it is important to the patient! . I have had to physically go and wait my turn to ask a question! Then, the answer is ‘Oh, I was just going to handle that’ by the office staff. But my chart hasn’t been pulled or anything that indicates it was going to be addressed. This is not a one time incident.
I like Dr Schermer, but I am looking for an office that is managed better.

Dr Blake is friendly and meticulous. On my first visit, I forgot to bring my medical records from my previous doctor. He personally made a call to my her to clarify on some medical points in order to give me an accurate treatment. I appreciate his seriousness and professionism.

From the 1st minute till exit great experience. Technician showed knowledge of all instruments being used. Everything was cleaned prior to me using it. Any question or concern I had was answered.
The doctor was prompt, efficient and very patient with all of my annoying questions. Never gave me any reason to feel he had other patients waiting, which he did.
I did not get to work with the optician on the visit, but I will be back for new lens in my frames.
I will be back, and I will be bringing my family as well.

Dr. Schermer was attentive and straightforward. My insurance (KP) doesn't cover the semi-annual exams I need because they are out of network, BUT Dr. Schermer assured me that he will see me annually and provided me with the information needed for KP for my "in-between" exams. He was kind and thorough. I also replaced by eyeglasses and found the selection of frames to be better than other places I've used in the past. The staff is friendly, the office is bright and accessible, and everyone seems to be well-organized. I am new to the area and appreciate how at ease I felt here. Thank you so much! Highly recommend.

This doctor bought the practice from Dr. Levy who recently retired. The level of care was on par with the reputation that Dr. Levy built for the practice. The prep and exam all went very smoothly. Most outstanding was Mr. Rick Riley who lives up to his title of Master Optician. His professionalism and efficiency in helping me select and fit my eyeglasses was outstanding. Haven't received my eyeglasses yet, but expecting a good outcome after the positive experience!
