About Dr. Clayton Pennington

Clay Pennington, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract and refractive surgery as well as diagnosis and management of medical conditions affecting the eye including, but not limited to, glaucoma, dry eye, keratoconus, and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Pennington obtained his undergraduate degree in biological sciences and chemistry from Louisiana State University and his Medical Doctorate degree from the Medical College of Georgia. After completing a one-year internal medicine internship at his alma mater, he moved to New York City to train in ophthalmology at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Upon completion of his ophthalmology training in 2018, he moved to Denver with his family and has been in practice since. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
In addition to his professional career practicing ophthalmology, Dr. Pennington enjoys spending time with his wife and son, skiing, bicycling, cooking and traveling.

I highly recommend Dr. Pennington. He saw me basically the moment I walked in the door and spent plenty of time with me doing a thorough eye exam and explaining what he saw. I'd seen an optometrist earlier who had scared me with a possible diagnosis and it was reassuring to see a specialist who could examine my eyes and explain my condition. I'll definitely be seeing him again for my next annual eye exam.

My experience at Dr. Pennington’s office was fantastic. He called first and listened to me explaining the issues I was having before I came in to get a sense of what I needed. Upon arrival, I was seen immediately and in a very friendly manner. I have a lot of anxiety around eyes and doctors in the past have increased this anxiety, but Dr. Pennington was great in explaining things in a calm manner and laying out all my options that made me feel comfortable and relaxed. If you have any anxiety around eyes I would highly recommend seeing Dr. Pennington. He listened to me, made me feel like a person, and was able to explain everything thoroughly. Wonderful experience overall! 10/10 would go again if needed.

I went to Dr. Pennington for a PRK surgery. I first met for a consultation visit, he was very knowledgeable and put me at ease that the surgery was right for me. When I showed up for the surgery he saw me right away. The operation was quick and he sent me home with a helpful guide through my recovery. I’m so glad I got the surgery.
It has been life changing to correct my vision!

Clay is the best ophthalmologist I found in Denver. He is extremely knowledgeable and was very helpful in providing me with advice relating to a ongoing dry eye issue. I had seen many doctors before about this issue but this was the first time someone truly cared about solving the root cause of this issue. When I have had recurrences relating to this issue, he is always very responsive to my messages. Thank you Clay and 10/10 would recommend to others.

I am grateful that Dr. Pennington was my physician for an eye issue that I had. He was punctual, knowledgeable, and listened intently to my concerns. He explained what caused my issue and gave me multiple options for treatment and care. He seemed to care more about me as a person than a patient as well. Dr. Pennington is an amazing doctor! I was so nervous for my exam but he was so kind and thorough. He also had a busy day of patients but was timely and did not make me feel rushed. I also had him see my father who does not speak any English. Dr. Pennington was extremely patient using the translator line to help my dad understand his cornea eye condition. My dad and I both give him a double thumbs up!
