Dr. Cody Gustaveson is a United States Navy veteran the president of Clinic Ovis and a licensed clinical psychologist with Board Certification in Biofeedback (BCB). He completed his PhD at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Diego, California where he researched biomarkers of psychosocial stress (stress induced by racial discrimination and internal response processes) on heart health in minority populations. Dr. Gustaveson completed an APA internship in rural Alaska with Norton Sound Health Corporation providing services in a remote Native Alaskan village providing community mental health services. He completed post-doctoral training at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego working with chronic pain populations and supporting the department of preventative medicine in health lifestyle education.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I'm Dr. Gustaveson, a clinical psychologist in the San Diego area. I have been helping people manage through chronic pain, chronic illness, chemical dependency, OCD, insomnia, and other psychological challenges since 2017. Some of the people I work with never imagined they would be working with a psychologist. They suffer from conditions like heart disease, cancer, Parkinson's disease, migraines, insomnia, and other chronic health conditions. What is often overlooked is that these individuals also suffer from depression, anxiety, and so many other psychological problems that emanate from, interact with, and even exacerbate these conditions. Often, they've told me they feel judged and sometimes hopeless when they are referred to a psychologist. Other's have worked with psychologists in the past, and this is just one stop in their mental health journey. I recognize it might be anxiety provoking, stressful, or even feel stigmatizing to seek out mental health treatment. We are here to help make that process easier.
