He went on to serve an illustrious 36-year career in the United States Air Force, retiring in 2025 as a Colonel. His distinguished service included two command tours, serving as Director of the Air Force Ophthalmic Technician Training Program, and ultimately as the Optometry Career Field Manager and Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General for Optometry. Upon retirement, he was awarded the prestigious Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct and leadership. Dr. Rhoton is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Armed Forces Optometric Society. Now proudly serving patients at Bermel Vision & Aesthetics in the Northern Virginia region, Dr. Rhoton is passionate about delivering comprehensive eye care that combines advanced diagnostics, the latest treatment options, and a genuinely personal approach. Whether performing detailed medical eye exams, managing dry eye and ocular disease, co-managing cataract and refractive surgery, or helping patients achieve their best vision and appearance with today’s premium lens and aesthetic solutions, Dr. Rhoton is dedicated to helping every patient see and feel their very best. Outside the office, Dr. Rhoton and his wife of over 35 years, Jeanine, enjoy traveling (they’ve visited all 50 states together), bicycling, hiking, beachcombing, and exploring the rich history of the DMV area.
