About Dr. Duane Austin
Duane F. Austin, M.D., is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Co-Founder of Connecticut Eye Center, P.C., where he has been serving the medical and surgical eye care needs of patients throughout greater Hartford, Connecticut, for over 25 years. Dr. Austin received his Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College and completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, Nassau County Medical Center. He is an experienced eye surgeon in Hartford who provides cataract and lens implant surgery, as well as many types of laser eye surgery. Dr. Austin offers complete eye care, including general eye examinations, cataract surgery, laser eye surgery for glaucoma and diabetic eye disease, and diagnosis and treatment of dry eyes, an area in which he has a special interest. Patients seeking consultation for cataract surgery appreciate Dr. Austin's thorough explanation of the procedure, including the various types of implants currently used. The newest implant, the multifocal lens, helps to correct near, intermediate, and far vision with minimal need for glasses.

My previous experience with Dr.Austin was very good ( two cataract surgeries.) This appointment for a routine eye exam with one concern was not as good: while the receptionist and technician were very professional and pleasant, Dr. Austen seemed rushed, barely explained the procedure that is necessary, and had me sign papers, with little explanation of what they were, (releases ? I’m not sure) while my eyes were dilated. I am still going in for the procedure because of my previous good experience but this has left me feeling unsettled.

Dr. Austin conveys a real sense of expertise in his work. He did my cataract surgery several years ago, and I couldn't have been more pleased. He seemed genuinely excited then that this surgery was really going to help me - and he was right. This session (treating glaucoma), he was equally approachable and eager to help.

Dr. Austin is the best there is. We will never go elsewhere. We've tried places closer to home and the office staff was inept, not totally convinced that their diagnosis was correct so switched back to Dr. Austin and my gut feeling was correct.
Great doctor, excellent bedside manner, patient, explained everything and genuinely cares about his patients.
The office staff was patient, efficient, thorough, and easy to deal with.

Checked in about 15 minutes early, eye exam started almost immediately after I signed the basic forms. Dr Austin was very laid back and didn't give me the feeling that I was being rushed. Will certainly be back.

I was not happy with the long wait time, caused by chatty receptionist delaying my intake. Med tech should smile a bit more and bedside manner was stuffy. Dr. Austin is a really good guy and made me feel at ease. I highly recommend. Maybe I just came on a bad day for the other part.
