About Dr. Erin Ong
Dr. Erin Ong was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed residency training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine where she served as a chief resident. She received further training in Cornea, External Disease, & Refractive Surgery as a fellow at the number one ranking Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Prior to her ophthalmology training, she completed an intern year at Mercy Medical Center and earned both her Doctor of Medicine and Masters in Genomic Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She received her Bachelors of Science and Art in Neurobiology & Physiology and cum laude in Psychology as a double major at the University of Maryland. She has served as a trip leader on short term medical mission trips to Nicaragua and volunteered at Healthcare for the Homeless, Sight Savers for free vision screenings for the Baltimore community, and Maryland Society of Eye Physicians (MSEPS) Advocacy Day.
Dr. Ong has a special interest in cataract surgery, corneal transplants, pterygiums, and complex anterior segment surgery. Outside of work, she loves to hike, kayak, snowboard, play board games, and cook with her family and church community

I looked forward to my appointment based on the positive reviews for the office and for Dr. Ong. Unfortunately she was curt and suggested extreme treatment for tension headaches including Lasik, cataract surgery (I don’t have cataracts) and medications (without first asking about any treatments I’ve already had for migraine and headache). She seemed frustrated that the medications she suggested I can’t tolerate or have been unsuccessful in the past.
As it happens, a new glasses prescription from a different doctor helped significantly.

I had an appointment with Dr. Ong for an eye issue and my experience was very positive. Dr. Ong was thorough and professional in examining my eyes.
