“Massive improvement upon my old eye doctor and opticians. Not only was the doctor very professional, experienced, and friendly, but every single member of staff I interacted with went out of their way to be helpful and make sure I knew exactly what I would be getting, what it would cost, and why. They accepted my insurance, and when my insurance didn’t cover as much as expected, the optician was so genuine and cared a lot to get the price down for me. He walked me through what he was doing as he was working on it and was able to help me get exactly what I needed at the price point I had in mind! Also the office is very charming; it’s in a beautiful big old historic house across from City Park, right in a cozy nice neighborhood. ”

Dr. Gene Johnson received his undergraduate degree from Ferris State College and earned his Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He has a strong interest in optometric humanitarian work and has participated in numerous clinic trips to Mexico, Panama, and Peru. Outside of the office, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with his two grown children, cooking, camping, and engaging in outdoor activities.

Dr. Johnson is wonderful! I hadn’t had my eyes checked in awhile, and he made me feel at ease and answered all of my questions. Everything was comprehensive and thorough; I felt taken care of with Dr. Johnson and all of his staff.

I had the BEST experience and highly recommend Dr. Johnson. Great bedside manners and very knowledgeable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Athena was an absolute angel and helped me picked gorgeous glasses. I also want to point out that everyone was ready for me when I got there and it’s probably one of the first times I didn’t have to wait at all at a doctors appointment!

Dr. Gene was very kind and patient! However, the person that saw me first and did my initial eye exam truly made the experience. She was so kind and welcoming. She was clearly an expert, but communicated results in a way I could understand. Sincerely the best customer service I've ever received. I'd recommend her a hundred times over!
