About Dr. Laiyin Ma
Laiyin Ma, M.D., the founder of Envision Eye Group, is a board-certified ophthalmologist, with a specialty in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery. She is a graduate of the prestigious combined 7-year BA/MD Program through Boston University and Boston University School of Medicine. Subsequently, she completed her ophthalmology residency training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she was appointed Chief Resident and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed her fellowship at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.
Dr. Ma’s primary aim is achieving her patients’ goals. She practices comprehensive ophthalmology with a focus on cornea and ocular surface disease. She is skilled in cataract surgery utilizing multifocal and toric intraocular lenses, Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS), full and partial thickness (DSAEK and DMEK) corneal transplantation, various types of anterior segment surgery, and laser refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, phakic intraocular lenses).
Dr. Ma is published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and has presented her research at major academic conferences, including the annual meetings of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. She is an active fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Ma is a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai where she is involved in the surgical training and teaching of ophthalmology residents. She has been honored to receive the teaching award every year that she’s taught there.
In her free time, Dr. Ma enjoys playing tennis and spending time with her 3 daughters.

Dr. Ma runs a professional and welcoming practice. The staff communicated with me in advance and greeted me by name at check-in, setting a warm and reassuring tone for the visit. I came in for an annual eye exam and a consultation on vision correction procedures.
The initial eye tests were conducted by the staff, who explained each step clearly and thoroughly. When Dr. Ma entered the room, she examined my eyes with attentiveness and care. She immediately identified both lens fogging and eyelid dermatitis, an issue I had previously discussed with a dermatologist but had not received treatment for. Without any prompting, Dr. Ma recognized the condition and prescribed the appropriate medication.
Her explanation of vision correction options was detailed, informative, and thoughtful. I appreciated the clarity and confidence she brought to the consultation. I would confidently recommend Dr. Ma to anyone considering an eye exam or vision correction procedure.

Dr. Ma is an exceptionally knowledgeable and personable ophthalmologist who consistently provides high-quality care. In December 2023, she performed my cataract surgery, and it was one of the best procedural experiences I’ve ever had. Utilizing the latest technology, the surgery was a non-needle, painless procedure, and the healing process was quick and issue-free. Dr. Ma’s expertise and thoroughness were evident throughout the entire experience.
In mid-July, I faced an eye emergency after spending hours in the ER without a resolution. Before being discharged, I immediately made an appointment with Dr. Ma, who had availability the very next day. She discovered a speck lodged in my eyelid that was causing significant damage by scratching my cornea. Dr. Ma’s swift and expert care was crucial in beginning the healing process. Dr. Ma is, without a doubt, one of the best medical professionals I’ve ever encountered I would recommend her in a heartbeat.
