Dr. Lauren Summers, MD

Primary Care Doctor
19485 Old Jetton Rd, Ste 100, Cornelius, NC
I chose family medicine because I love the idea of caring for entire families. I enjoy seeing patients of all ages - from infants through seniors - and value building relationships with them. I also appreciate the opportunities family medicine provides to practice in different care settings - from the clinic to the hospital to urgent care. My approach to healthcare is patient-centered. Anytime I treat a patient, I consider their background, values and priorities in addition to their current condition. I don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach because every patient is different. I also believe in shared decision-making; I don't develop a treatment plan without asking for patient input. In my final year of medical school, I was honored with the J. Rush Shull, MD, Award, which is given to two graduating seniors who demonstrated a commitment to community service and are entering a primary care residency program in North Carolina. I spent my childhood and teenage years in a small Dallas suburb before moving to Washington, D.C., for college at Howard University. While I was in college, my parents moved to the Raleigh area, and I eventually joined them in North Carolina. In addition to my medical degree, I have a master's degree in physiology. My experience also includes working as a medical assistant and scribe for both dermatology and family medicine offices. I'm very family-focused, and when I'm not working, I'm probably spending time with my parents and younger brother - or my partner and closest friends. I also love reading crime and fantasy novels, traveling, listening to live music and trying new restaurants in the Charlotte area.
