“I began allergy treatment with Dr. Portner in my teens because I had very severe autoimmune issues, chronic fatigue, pain, itchy eyes and couldn’t breathe out of my nose. I’d seen doctor after doctor and either they gave me pills that didn’t really work or they didn’t know what to do with me. Dr. Portner was the only dr. who listened. He always took the time to explain things and taught me how to do shots on my own when I went away to college (he even made different allergy extracts for me because I was in a different state with different allergens). He’s always returns my calls right away and has been patient with every concern I’ve had over the years. Because I was severely allergic to pretty much everything, I did allergy shots every week for over a decade which Dr. Portner mailed to me when I moved around. I also appreciate that Dr. Portner never told me to get rid of my cats even though I clearly had bad allergies to them. Now, I’m in my early 50’s and Dr. Portner is still the only doctor I call if I have a concern. I’m pleased to say that my energy has been great for the last 25 years. Now I almost never use eye drops, I never use allergy nose sprays, I breathe clearly and I sleep with my cats! He’s the best doctor I’ve ever been to: a true healer and a lovely human being!”

About Dr. Marvin Portner

IMPORTANT INSURANCE NOTE I am not an In-Network provider for ANY insurance. My office will bill many insurance companies (PPOs only) on your behalf. You will be responsible for paying for your services, and my office will do their best to facilitate your insurance reimbursing you, but we make no guarantees. One of my earliest memories is putting my hands on someone’s knee and feeling pain in my knee as their pain diminished. This first experience as a healer inspired my fascination with the human body and its energy systems. After earning my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan, I completed an internship in Pediatrics at Sinai Hospital in Detroit. I then pursued a residency in Allergy and Immunology at the Veterans Affairs Long Beach Healthcare System. After medical training, I served as a Navy officer, where I noticed that at sea my breathing was easy and free of congestion, but on land, my nose was stuffy and chest congested. This recognition of allergies and immune response motivated my pursuit of Allergy and Immunology. As the saying goes: “Healer, heal thyself.” My mission has been to help patients remain healthy and achieve their highest level of health. I entered private practice and served as acting chief of Allergy and Immunology at the V.A. Hospital Long Beach (UCLA). Dr. Robinett, my senior associate, had allowed Minnesota farmers to do allergy shots (AIT) at home with success. We studied this in our LA practice and found both groups benefited without complications, but the at-home group had more consistent treatment, greater satisfaction, and saved time and travel. We adopted Home Allergy Treatment (HAT) as our standard approach. With over 100,000 patient years, we saw no complications and great benefit. If you are tired of in-office allergy shots or hesitant about them, HAT may be just what the doctor ordered. Dr. Portner recently spoke at the Functional Medicine Symposium.

Dr. Marvin Portner has forever changed my life and in many ways, actually saved my life! I was a long-time allergy sufferer and they just seemed to get worse as time went on. Each spring I would notice an uptick in symptoms and each year the symptoms became exponentially worse, to the point that nothing I took over the counter made a dent in the symptoms. I was miserable. Also, I did not know at the time that my allergies were also linked to year-round feelings of depression, fatigue and anxiety that I had been experiencing for years. Dr. Marvin was able to quickly diagnose the root causes of my allergies and put me on a shot regiment that I could easily and painlessly, self-administer at home. Fast forward five years later, I no longer have the need to take shots and I just went through spring in California which, in the past, would have been excruciating without allergy shots. I am so very thankful for Dr. Portner and his incredible gift of healing and wellness. He truly is an expert in his field and was able to get to the bottom of a problem that I had been dealing with for years.
I started medical care under Dr. Marvin Portner originally for allergy treatments. At that time I was also having some GI and digestive issues that other doctors I was seeing were not able to get to the bottom of. I began to talk with Dr. Portner and all I can say is that I am living and breathing proof of this man’s relentless pursuit of knowledge in his field. Between my life-long allergy suffering to helping me understand my gluten-intolerance and need for the right probiotics, I am living a life that I did not think I would be able to. Last year my family and I had to move across the country and shortly after I contracted Covid before I was able to find a local Doctor. Because he was up on the latest information regarding Covid and the latest strains, Dr. Portner, from across the country, was able to help me get through the worst of the illness and until I was able to arrange local medical care. This man is a true gift and I am so thankful to have been under his care when I needed it most.
