"Matthew Vizithum, O.D., received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry and earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. He became interested in optometry after learning of a family history of glaucoma, which inspired his dedication to disease prevention and patient care. Since moving to North Carolina, Dr. Vizithum has provided clinical services in a variety of settings, including nursing homes, the Durham VA Medical Center, the Chapel Hill Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Center, and TLC Laser Eye Center in Raleigh, where he served as Interim Clinic Director. He served for six years on the Orange County Board of Health, worked as a clinical examiner for the North Carolina State Board of Optometry, and was honored as the Young Optometrist of the Year by the North Carolina Optometric Association. Dr. Vizithum is also active in entrepreneurship as a member of the Carolina Angel Network. His interest in human performance extends to his personal life, where he has earned certifications in performance breathing, movement, and wilderness medicine. He lived in Costa Rica with his family for two years and enjoys surfing, kitesurfing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends."
