Getting to know Dr. Susan Spilman

Hi, Susan here. Are you feeling overwhelmed with your life-not sure what is next for you, relationship questions, health concerns? Compassionate listening and curiosity are a bedrock of my approach. I help you get clearer about the issues that are bothering you so that you can make decisions about your life that you feel good about. We'll look at family patterns, any kind of abuse or abandonment in your past as a way to understand how your life developed. Then we will begin to explore other ways of being that will bring you more peace and happiness in your life. For some, specific goal setting is useful, while for others, people come to a new way of being after seeing their own patterns. Each client is unique, and I will focus on your concerns and desires. I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University, which informs my compassionate and thoughtful approach to supporting you on your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

First sessions usually involve a review of your history so that I can begin to understand you. This is combined with deep listening to your concerns and wishes for your life. We will begin to clarify the issues and work on finding what is most important to you. It's important for you to feel safe in the sessions and to feel free to ask me questions, share any disagreements---in otherwords, to develop an authentic relationship where you can be yourself. As sessions progress, we will discuss your ways of seeing the world, spiritual concerns and look at ways your past, family and collective history may have limited your possibilities and explore options for a broader view.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
