About Dr. Tara O’Connor
Dr. Tara O’Connor is definitely a Texan at heart. However, she first grew up traveling the country with her military family. After stops in Hawaii, South Carolina, and Alabama (to name a few), she graduated from high school in South Texas. She then went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from Southeast Missouri State University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Nutrition. Following that, she moved to Columbia, Missouri, to pursue her dream of a career in medicine. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in 2013. Dr. O’Connor then moved back to Texas to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Parkland Health and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. During her training, she was awarded the Excellence in Obstetrics and Outstanding Resident Teaching Awards and served as Chief Resident during her final year.
Dr. O’Connor joined Vernon & Waldrep OB/Gyn Associates in October 2017. She offers a wide variety of services, including routine and high-risk obstetric care, minimally invasive gynecologic procedures (including laparoscopic surgery), and care for numerous gynecologic conditions in the office setting. She especially enjoys caring for adolescents and young women, with an emphasis on contraception and preventive health. She values getting to know each patient on a personal level and always strives to provide the best individualized and patient-centered care possible. She loves following patients throughout the many phases of their lives, offering compassionate care every step of the way.
Dr. O’Connor lives with her husband, Purav, a cardiologist here in Dallas. She loves sharing her life with her husband and their beautiful daughter. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, true crime podcasts, spoiling her dogson (Hank), and using social media as a tool for spreading accurate and accessible women’s health education.

She is amazingly sweet and down to earth. She’s able to explain things in simple language and will even draw you a picture if you still don’t understand. These types of appointments can be scary and confusing but she makes you feel at ease and not afraid to ask questions!

I would like to start off by saying that my first visit with Dr. O’Connor went well. I haven’t found an Ob/GYN since I lived in Austin, and have gone through my PCP (primary care physician), for my annual Pap smears. Dr. O’Connor asked questions and took a genuine interest in my visit. She has a patient for life!!! I would have given her 10 stars if I could.
