Getting to know Abba Cohen
I work with children, individuals, and couples. In my work with children, I engage them in a non-pressured environment using play and talk therapy as I collaborate with them and their parents to help understand their world, increase awareness, promote effective communication, and find meaningful solutions. I work extensively with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, or anger, helping them learn to cope and express themselves. I selectively incorporate family and interpersonal dynamics. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I help couples improve the intimacy and closeness they crave in their marriage while enhancing communication and understanding.
I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Yeshiva University. My advanced training includes Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Ericksonian Hypnosis, Gottman Couples Therapy, Play Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

I seek to understand the individual circumstances and challenges of each of my clients within the context of their lives. I take a comprehensive and optimistic approach that emphasizes my clients' strengths, helps them develop greater insight, and identify practical ways they can promote effective change in their lives.

I wish my children and I could spend more time with you and your therapeutic services. My soon to be ex wife does not like you. Its because she knows you are a threat to her and that you will improve their relationship with me. Unfortunately, she will undermine anything that will accomplish that goal. In any event, in just one session, I realized why you were so highly recommended. You understand and have the instinct to recognize what parental alienation is all about. I still hope and pray that very soon we can use your services. You are forthcoming and straight to the point. I wish you worked as an AFC for children in family court and supreme court and beyond. You are brilliant. And I say that as a very critical person, as an attorney and as a father. Truly one of a kind. I hope and pray that you will eventually be part of my journey. Thank you.

Abba is patient and intuitive and is a perfect balance of validating and questioning when topics arise. He can gently but firmly reach and guide people who are not used to being helped or advised. He has great insight and expertise into why people may act a certain way and how to help them adjust habits and attitudes that are harmful. Highly recommend

I came to Abba for help with a conflict-ridden family situation that originated out of a traumatic history. Abba was a quick study and very intuitive and readily understood my situation. He was very validating and helpful in turning around my interactions with them. While we're not finished, I am more hopeful and can see a pathway to fix ingrained dysfunctional family patterns and address their fragile feelings. He was extremely helpful in improving my communication skills, enabling me to set limits, while still engaging them more productively to improve our relationships. In the process he quickly picked up on some of my own painful lifelong struggles and addressed them. I highly recommend Abba as a competent, compassionate, and experienced professional.

It is basically impossible to keep this short but Abba Cohen is the absolute best at his craft/job. Abba not only has taught me an abundance of new skills to say the least, but he has assisted in helping me think outside of the box so to say, and has helped me open up many new ways of thinking during this process and has really given me alot of hope for myself. Abba has proven to me from time and time again that there is more than one way to do things and is so compassionate and understanding with everything that i give over his way.
