Getting to know Adam Lukeman

In order for therapy to be successful, it is important to establish a client/therapist relationship that is supportive and honest. It is the nature-and the quality-of our relationship that will determine the success of your overall therapy goals. The success of the ?meeting of the minds' with your psychotherapist is the most accurate predictor of a positive, healthy outcome to the hard work you put in toward your happiness. There is a large body of research supporting insight-oriented and cognitive therapy. It reveals that individuals who practice these techniques are happier, more resilient, and better equipped to heal. It would be my honor and mission to help you move past what's blocking you and to reach your potential as an individual and in your relationships. The foundation of my approach is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Therapy. I then work toward a tailored plan that can incorporate insight-oriented therapy, cognitive restructuring, Internal Family Systems, and other proven modalities. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Touro College and University System, New York. I have advanced training in modern psychoanalysis from the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center; an advanced certificate in Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy from the Albert Ellis Institute; and am an informed Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist. I have trained with SUNY Downstate Hospital's Inpatient Psychiatry Unit. Additionally, I am a certified Field Instructor through Fordham University (SIFI) and provide supervision to other psychotherapists.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The foundation of my approach is a combination of insight oriented therapy and cognitive therapy. I also apply the IFS modality, also referred to parts work. However, you are unique and, after we get to know each other, we will learn what approach(s) work best for you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The foundation of my approach is psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive therapy and IFS. I then work toward a tailored plan for you which will best speak to your personal needs.
