What should a new client know about working with you?

About me: I’m a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in multiple states, firstly in my home state of Texas. In addition, I hold licensure in Arizona, Nevada, New Jersey, and Wyoming. I am a National Certified Counselor and completed my PhD in Advanced Studies of Human Behavior in 2022. My work experience includes multiple settings in mental health, including inpatient, managed care, and individual and group counseling. My path was initially fueled by the interest in gaining an understanding of others as unique individuals and helping them figure out how to take steps to build their ideal version of themselves. What you can expect from me My approach is not to fix the person or instruct you on what you “should be” doing but to help the person figure out what best serves their sense of self and how to build the life and version of themselves they want. The client is the driver, and I’m the passenger, just here to help you learn to navigate obstacles in the best way for them. Some of the therapeutic approaches I use most frequently are cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed approaches, emotional regulation interventions, self-care, and relaxation practices. I encourage my clients to tell me what works for them to help us determine the best methods and strategies for that person; everyone is different and should be treated as such. Hobbies and Interests: When I’m not working, I love to skate or hike; I’m always looking for new adventures and ways to challenge myself and improve my health via daily practices and setting new goals. I have two dogs, Gretel and Lucy, who are likely on their bed behind me in the office while I work at all times. I make it a point to accept people as they are and allow things to be what they are; it’s incredible how this can impact your outlook on life. I live by practicing preaching and making every effort to show up, show clients, and provide a safe and nonjudgemental space.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Going through therapy with a therapist can be a very beneficial experience for individuals who want to work through their mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being. Here are some steps you can take to make the most of your therapy experience: -Find the right therapist: The first step is to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. Look for someone who specializes in the type of issues you want to address and whose style matches your preferences. I hope I can be that person for you. -Set clear goals: It's important to have clear goals for therapy so that you and I are on the same page. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and work together to create a treatment plan that outlines the steps you will take to achieve those goals. - Try to be open and honest with me about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am here to help you, and I can only do so if I have a clear understanding of what's going on. - Trust the process: Therapy can be a long process, and it's important to trust that the work you're doing with me will pay off in the end. It's also important to be patient and not expect instant results. - Practice self-care: In addition to attending therapy sessions, it's important to practice self-care on a regular basis. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. - Keep an open mind: Finally, it's important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. As your therapist, I may suggest different techniques or approaches that you haven't tried before, and it's important to be receptive to these suggestions. Remember, therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, so be sure to communicate your thoughts and concerns along the way. With the right mindset and a willingness to work, therapy can be a transformative experience that helps you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life.
