“Alexa is an incredible therapist that cares deeply about her patients. She does a great job keeping any of her preconceived notions or opinions out of the conversation so that she can help you work out your own answers. She also understands that sometimes you might not be in a place where you are capable of moving forward and coming up with a solution. Sometimes therapy is a place to explore your own feelings and frustrations without rushing to discover a resolution. Ultimately, her compassion and willingness to meet you at where you are at when you walk in that door is what sets her apart. ”

Getting to know Alexa Holzberger

I work with people who may look like they have it all together but feel anything but steady on the inside. Many of my clients are insightful, caring, and accomplished—yet weighed down by anxiety, self-doubt, or exhaustion from holding everything together. Some feel stuck in unfulfilling relationships, lost in transition, or caught in cycles of perfectionism and overthinking. Beneath it all is a quiet strength and a longing for deeper connection, clarity, and peace. My approach is warm, collaborative, and deeply attuned. I integrate relational and psychodynamic therapy with evidence-based tools such as CBT and DBT, helping clients both understand the roots of their struggles and build practical strategies for daily life. Sessions often focus on untangling old patterns, healing shame and self-criticism, and creating space for self-compassion and authentic connection. I’m a University of Pennsylvania–trained psychotherapist licensed in New York and Connecticut, with advanced training in relationships, trauma, eating concerns, and the emotional weight of shame. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, grounding, and real—where teens, young adults, and adults can reconnect with themselves and move toward lasting, meaningful change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is not about quick fixes or surface-level advice. It’s a collaborative process where we explore your inner world with curiosity, compassion, and honesty. My role is to help you see what’s been hard to see, put words to what’s been heavy, and find new ways of relating to yourself and others. Clients often describe my style as genuine, warm, and grounding. I’m engaged and attuned in sessions—never passive—but I also respect your pace. I believe that change happens when we feel safe enough to be real, so I work to create that safety from day one. Together, we’ll blend reflection and tangible skills to help you move through stuck points and toward greater clarity, confidence, and connection.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, I focus on understanding your story—what brings you in, what patterns you’ve noticed, and what you hope will be different. We’ll move at a pace that feels right for you, exploring both your current challenges and the deeper experiences that shaped them. Together, we’ll clarify your goals and begin developing tools and insights to support meaningful change. As therapy unfolds, sessions often weave between exploration and action: connecting the dots between past and present, making sense of emotions, and practicing new ways of relating—to yourself and to others. Some sessions may feel reflective and insight-oriented; others may focus on concrete strategies for managing stress, boundaries, or communication. Over time, the process becomes less about “fixing” and more about deepening awareness, healing what’s been carried for too long, and fostering a sense of steadiness and authenticity in daily life. My aim is to help you feel more grounded, self-aware, and free to live in alignment with who you truly are.

Alexa is an amazing therapist that helps you to keep your issues in perspective. She also helps you to accept when there isn’t always a great option and helps you to make the best one at the time and grieve the better options you hoped would manifest. Ultimately, she helped me to understand that even when there is no good option there is still a way forward.
Honestly, the best experience I have had looking for a therapist and I am hopeful to working with her more. She was a great listener and asked a lot of questions in our first session.

Alexa is a great therapist! She helped me overcome a hard time in my life. I had my first breakup and talking to her made me feel very safe and connected with myself and what I really wanted in a relationship. I feel more confident and secure of what I need now. Thank you so much!! ????
Alexa is a therapist who facilitates change in a way I didn’t know was possible. She has an incredible ability to guide you into the deeper layers of the subconscious, helping you uncover the roots of patterns that have lived beneath the surface for years. Working with her isn’t just about coping—it’s about true transformation. The shifts I’ve made with her have been meaningful, lasting, and genuinely life-enhancing. I feel clearer, healthier, and more grounded than I ever have. If you’re looking for real, lifelong change, Alexa is the therapist you want by your side.
Alexa loves what she does, and it shows... in her dedication and caring. She will dig deep to help you understand how you think and feel. I wanted to make some pretty fundamental changes in my life. I couldn't have done it without someone exceptional like her. I'm not saying it was easy. If you really want to invest in yourself, get ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work...
Alexa is wonderful! I have learned so much about myself working with her. She’s very knowledgeable and extremely approachable.
I was hesitant about doing therapy, but am so grateful that I did! Alexa was great - really smart and perceptive. She helped me to see patterns in my behavior that I had been completely unaware of. SO HELPFUL!
I’ve had several therapists over the years but no one has made me feel as truly heard and understood as she does - I think she’s the most empathetic and actionable person I’ve ever met. I can’t recommend her enough!!
Alexa is an amazing therapist who truly invests in her clients’ well-being. She meets each client where they are, caring deeply about them and tailoring her approach to their individual needs. Always compassionate, she supports them through difficult times, facilitates healing from trauma, and teaches the skills necessary to build and maintain healthy relationships with others, as well as with oneself. I would wholeheartedly recommend Alexa to be your therapist!
Alexa created a safe and comfortable space for us to talk and was very welcoming! I could see her being a huge long-term resource
I cannot say enough good things about my experience working with Alexa. From the very beginning, they created a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where I felt truly heard and supported. Through our sessions, I’ve experienced incredible progress with my anxiety—something that used to feel overwhelming and constant. Even more impactful has been the work we’ve done around childhood trauma. With their guidance, I’ve been able to not only understand the root causes but also begin healing in a way I never thought possible. Their approach is both professional and deeply empathetic. I always feel like I’m being met exactly where I’m at, with the tools and insights tailored to what I need in the moment. It’s clear that they are deeply committed to their clients’ growth and well-being. Working with Alexa has been truly life-changing. I’m beyond grateful for their support and would recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone seeking meaningful and effective therapy.
I feel like I finally found someone who not only listens, but really knows how to get to the root of the issues in my life to help me understand how to deal with them. Thanks Alexa!
I am not a patient of Ms. Holzberger, however I have known her for many years, and was also an LCSW until I retired. Ms. Holzberger is very well-trained, and brings enthusiasm and positivity to her work. I observed her respond to a friend (via telephone) who was feeling suicidal, and she remained calm and was able to have him agree to have his family's assistance. Her intervention was exceptional. She has benefited from receiving therapy in the past, and she has a clear understanding of the process from the perspectives of the provider and the client.
My experience with Aurelis Therapy was exactly what I needed. Alexa is incredible! She was very attuned to my needs and I am so incredibly grateful I had her professional expertise to help me through an extremely rough patch. She not only helped me process my thoughts and emotions but also equipped me with techniques to manage them. I cannot recommend her enough. She also has a very warm personality and made me feel comfortable within the first five minutes of our session. Her guidance was both gentle and direct, striking the perfect balance to encourage growth!
Alexa fosters such a warm and genuine atmosphere that I feel completely comfortable opening up .. even about the things I’ve avoided sharing for years. She brings authenticity and humanity to every session. Anyone who gets to work with her is truly fortunate to have such a compassionate and grounded therapist, and I can’t recommend her enough!
Alexa has been incredible to work with. She helped me navigate a really stressful time in my life — buying my business and managing all the financial pressure that came with it. Her guidance and support helped me find balance, focus, and a much more positive outlook on life. As a guy, I used to think getting help for mental health was a weakness, but Alexa completely changed that mindset. She made it easy to open up and showed me how important it is to have someone to talk to. Thanks to her, I’ve grown not just professionally, but personally too. I’m truly grateful for all she’s done for me.
Alexa was so professional and made me really feel seen and understood in a way I hadn't before. She's present, attentive, and caring and I can't recommend her enough.
When my partner and I first moved in together, we were having trouble coping with the stress of moving and we were struggling to find a balance. Alexa was extremely kind and professional. She helped us with identifying why we struggled to communicate and helped us find healthy ways to problem solve and move forwards.
I've had the privilege of watching Alexa work her magic and I can genuinely say she's been a game changer for my mental well-being. Alexa brings a perfect blend of warmth, empathy, and professionalism to every session. She creates a safe and welcoming space where you feel truly heard and understood. If you're considering therapy and want someone who is not only skilled but also genuinely caring, I can't recommend Alexa enough. She's been a wonderful guide for me, and I'm sure she'll be just as supportive for anyone else looking to take that first step.
