Getting to know Alicia Ober

Hello, I'm Alicia. Our lives can be difficult to navigate at times. While looking at your current circumstances, you may understand that change needs to take place, but you may just feel lost in where to begin. Whether you’re experiencing difficult emotions or thoughts, navigating major life events, looking to heal from trauma, or just needing support, we will work together to develop a plan based on your specific needs. I graduated from Old Dominion University with a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). Prior to individual practice, I worked in the ER as a Behavioral Health Crisis Clinician helping stabilize individuals who were experiencing a mental health crisis, as a Mental Health Counselor at a Transitional Care Clinic helping to support individuals who were recently discharged from the hospital, and as an On-Call Crisis Counselor for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Additionally, I have experience working with individuals who have experienced grief and loss as a TAPS Peer Mentor for military survivors and a Peace by Piece Support Group Facilitator for individuals who have experienced the death of a loved one. I primarily work with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, and PTSD. I utilize a solution-focused, strengths-based approach stemming from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and in some cases Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Through counseling, I offer you a safe place to explore, heal, and achieve your goals and empower you in the process. Using multiple treatment models, we will work collaboratively to help you gain insight on your thoughts, relationships, emotions, and behaviors. Therapy is personalized to ensure it is the most appropriate and effective way for you to reach your goals.

The platform is great, and my provider has been outstanding. My frustration is with billing. It is incredibly delayed - I have 6 sessions pending submission to my insurance which could be impactful when all of those charges hit at once. I have not had regular follow up from the service team and connecting with someone from the service team is extremely difficult and delayed since everything is by email.
