Alyssa Soto, MSEd

Psychotherapist
NY
Hi, I'm Alyssa! I work with adolescents and adults coping with anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, grief and loss, relationships, self-esteem, and trauma. Before this, I spent 5+ years working with neurodivergent kids and teens in schools and ABA settings. That's where I learned to slow down and actually meet someone where they're at, instead of where I think they should be. I'm now a Mental Health Counselor-LP at Sol Health. I received a Bachelor's in Psychology and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling, both from Hunter College. I'm warm and direct. I'll be honest with you, and won't rush you toward answers before you're ready— but I will gently push when I think it helps. Some sessions we'll dig into patterns and tools, other times you'll just need to talk it out. Both are valid uses of our time. Whatever season you're in, I'm here to walk alongside you as you figure out what's next.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy isn't an easy decision, and it takes courage just to show up. My goal is to make sure you feel safe and supported from that very first session— no judgment and no pressure to have it all figured out. There's no one-size-fits-all approach here. My years working with neurodivergent kids taught me that everyone processes things differently. There's no "right" way to show up to a session, whether that's crying, going quiet, or wanting to talk about something totally unrelated first. I'm not particular about how therapy is "supposed" to look. If you need to vent about your day before we get into the real stuff, that's part of the work too. Wherever you're starting from, we'll figure it out together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We usually start by getting the full picture: what's going on, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping feels different. From there, sessions are mostly talk therapy, though I'll bring in CBT or DBT tools when they're useful, and art therapy on the days when words are hard to find. I try to keep sessions centered on what brought you in, but life happens — sometimes you'll come in needing to vent or work through something completely different from what's on the treatment plan, and that's okay. As we build rapport and I get a better sense of you, I might challenge you a bit more when it feels right. I also make it a point to highlight your strengths, celebrate your wins, and encourage you to actively take care of yourself. I check in regularly on what's actually helping, so our sessions stay useful to you and not just routine.
