Amanda Goodman, LMSW

Psychotherapist
NY
*This provider does not accept any Medicaid or Medicare plans* I work with adults navigating difficult family dynamics, ADHD, addiction, childhood trauma, burnout, stress that manifests as physical symptoms, chronic illness, creative blocks, relationship disruptions, and major transitions. I have extensive experience working with queer and trans folks, activists, artists, people with non traditional life styles and relationship structures, and people impacted by state repression. I want to understand you holistically, support you in holding what you are carrying, collaborate with you in identifying what is yours to hold and support you in learning how to let go of that which no longer serves you. I believe the therapeutic process can help you gain a lot of important insight and cultivate a greater sense of presence, bodily awareness, and curiosity that will improve your relationship to yourself and others. As inspired by my work in clowning, I bring a sense of presence, curiosity, non judgement, and humor to sessions. I often use play, embodiment and externalization as a tool to explore the connection between your emotions and their physical manifestations, while also helping you access your inner child. I make sure that I am in a grounded and settled state when I enter sessions and want you to feel comfortable, at ease, valued, and like this is your time to explore what is most important to you. Lyn (legal name: Amanda) Goodman has a Master’s in Social Work from Hunter Silberman School of Social Work. Lyn is a Licensed Master Social Worker, LMSW #129139 at Cerebral. Supervised by Yvonne Tancredi, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW #083432.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy is hard work. It involves looking at parts of ourselves and our pasts that are painful and moving through some really tough emotions. But there is so much power that comes from understanding ourselves and identifying our road blocks and habits. Once we understand what and who we are reacting to, it no longer controls us and we can finally choose the life we want to live, we can finally have relief, we can finally rest, we can finally love ourselves and those around us for who they are. I will support you throughout this process, I will help you move through these feelings, help you carry that which feels too heavy, and I will always have a tremendous amount of empathy for you, and be inspired by your bravery to go through this process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As someone who struggles to live in and witness the violence of the society we live in, I came to this work to be part of building a culture grounded in care, empathy, reciprocity, and self awareness. I gain so much hope and inspiration from witnessing people have the courage to heal themselves and I would be honored to be your collaborator in the process. I will do everything I can to support you in holding what you are carrying, help you move through and be present with your pain, and help you practice curiosity so you can witness the beauty of this world. I want to support you in identifying the patterns and old coping mechanisms that no longer serve you, so that you can form fulfilling and life sustaining relationships and cultivate an environment around you that is safe and supportive.
