Getting to know Amanda Thompson

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am dedicated to supporting children, teens, and adults on their paths to healing and growth. With specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I help clients address trauma and a range of mental health challenges through a person-centered, compassionate approach. I am a lifelong learner who actively pursues continuing education to expand my clinical skills, including training in Basic Mental Health First Aid and substance abuse/opioid family support. My goal is to create a safe, collaborative space where clients feel empowered to build resilience, reclaim their stories, and achieve meaningful change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As a licensed clinical social worker, I take a person-centered approach to building relationships with clients, with the goal of creating a space where clients feel safe, heard, and respected. I believe therapy works best when it is collaborative, so clients can expect to have autonomy, input, and an active role in shaping their own treatment. I strive to balance different therapeutic approaches based on each client’s needs, comfort level, and readiness, while checking in regularly about what feels helpful. My focus is on meeting clients where they are and supporting them with compassion, flexibility, and genuine care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy begins with a consultation when needed or requested, followed by an intake process focused on understanding each client’s background, current concerns, and goals while building rapport, familiarity, and trust at a pace that feels comfortable. I take a person-centered approach, adapting treatment to the specific needs, strengths, and preferences of each client rather than using a one-size-fits-all model. Assessment and treatment planning are collaborative, with clients encouraged to take an active role in shaping goals and choosing the direction of therapy in ways that support their autonomy and readiness for change. As therapy progresses, I draw from evidence-based approaches including DBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and TF-CBT to support emotional regulation, values-based action, cognitive and behavioral change, and trauma recovery. Throughout the process, I aim to create a supportive, flexible therapeutic relationship that honors each client’s comfort level, willingness, and unique path toward healing.
