Psychotherapist
1300 N Highland Ave, Ste 5, Aurora, IL
As a therapist, educator, and advocate, I bring a compassionate yet direct approach to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s complex emotional terrain. My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in cultural humility and because healing doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens in relationship. With experience supporting clients through trauma, neurodiversity (including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder), identity exploration, relationship challenges, and chronic stress, I strive to create a space where people feel seen, safe, and unfiltered. My work is especially attuned to those navigating systems that weren’t built with them in mind and whether due to race, disability, gender, skin condition, or life story. I also bring lived experience and a deep research lens into my work. As someone with vitiligo, I understand the emotional complexities that can arise from visible difference. My clinical and academic focus includes helping others explore shame, visibility, and the psychology of identity through a culturally informed lens. Therapy with me may include humor, real talk, evidence-based practices, and sometimes a metaphor or two (I like to say therapy is like a road trip and you’re the driver, I’m the passenger helping you read the map). Whether you're navigating anxiety, burnout, transitions, or just trying to figure out “what’s next?” I’m here to walk alongside you with curiosity and care, so no pressure, no judgment, just real support.

Getting to know Andre Joachim

Therapy with me may include humor, real talk, evidence-based practices, and sometimes a metaphor or two (I like to say therapy is like a road trip and you’re the driver, I’m the passenger helping you read the map). Whether you're navigating anxiety, burnout, transitions, or just trying to figure out “what’s next?” I’m here to walk alongside you with curiosity and care, so no pressure, no judgment, just real support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

First and foremost...therapy with me is a judgment-free zone. You can show up exactly as you are, whether you are messy, polished, tired, curious, overwhelmed, or just trying to figure out where to begin. I’m not here to “fix” you. I’m here to help you reconnect with your voice, your strength, and your sense of self, even in the moments when those things feel far away. I’m a relational therapist, which means our connection matters. I believe healing happens in safe, honest relationships and where you don’t have to code-switch, sugarcoat, or shrink yourself. I bring clinical training, cultural awareness, and a whole lot of heart into the room. You’ll find I use humor, storytelling, metaphors (yep, I love a good road trip analogy), and evidence-based practices to help you make sense of what’s going on and build toward the change you want. We go at your pace. Some sessions might be deep and emotional, others more strategic and skill-focused and either way, we’ll honor what you need that day. Therapy is your space. I’m just here to help you navigate it with compassion and clarity.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process starts with getting to know you and not just the symptoms or the surface stuff, but the story behind it all. In our first few sessions, I’ll take time to learn about your experiences, challenges, strengths, and what brought you to therapy. This isn’t a one size fits all journey and we’ll co-create a plan that’s tailored to your goals, your pace, and your personality. We start with an intake and a casual but thorough conversation to help me understand your background, current concerns, and what wellness looks like for you. From there, I use a combination of talk therapy, skill-building, and somatic (body-based) awareness when appropriate. I draw from evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, and relational-cultural theory and all while staying culturally responsive and emotionally attuned. My clients often describe therapy with me as a mix of “insight and action.” We’ll process emotions, identify patterns, and explore the root of what’s going on, but we’ll also work on practical strategies you can use outside the session, whether that’s managing anxiety, building emotional regulation, or learning how to say “no” without guilt. I check in regularly to make sure therapy is working for you. If something’s not clicking, we pivot. I believe in transparency, collaboration, and doing this work with you, not to you.
