Getting to know Andrew Brazzale

Andrew practices therapy by helping clients identify the core of these difficulties, and helps them find ways of creating structure and supportive scaffolding in order to manage and surpass them. Andrew believes that life can be difficult but you have the strength and inner capacity for change to do difficult things and make life easier for yourself. Andrew works with adults and specializes in working with folks with ADHD, autistic folks, perfectionists, members of the LGBTQ+ community, nerds, geeks, and gamers, and individuals exploring their identity and future. Andrew primarily works through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy that helps clients hold stressful thoughts at arm’s length in order to better examine them and their impact on their life, as well as Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy that helps clients confront their anxiety and be more open to new experiences. Andrew also strongly works from an anti-oppressive perspective and helps clients better examine how their development within an oppressive system has affected who they are and how they survive within it. Andrew himself is a neurodiverse, queer, male therapist with an interest in all things nerdom such as tabletop roleplaying games, trading card games, and painting wargaming models. He was born and raised in Chicago and has strong feelings about public transit and checkered tablecloths at pizza restaurants. Prior to working at Sunflower Andrew worked in private practice in Washington state as a therapist as well as case management at a psychiatric hospital. He has also been involved in facilitating groups aimed at helping children and teens build better social competency and confidence through therapeutically applied tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons.
