Getting to know Brendan Finnegan

Brendan Finnegan is a Licensed Master Social Worker who earned his Master’s in Social Work from Hunter College, City University of New York. He works with children and adults across the lifespan, supporting those adjusting to loss, adapting to life transitions, and experiencing anxiety. Brendan strives to collaborate with each individual by empowering their strengths in an environment that is trauma-informed, safe, and interpersonally connected. He incorporates skills-based approaches with mindfulness and other somatic techniques, utilizing music and movement alongside talk therapy to facilitate solutions. Brendan has supported children, adolescents, adults, and families who have experienced trauma, loss of a loved one, or difficulty adjusting to stressors and life transitions. Most recently, he has assisted children impacted by the incarceration of a loved one by providing therapy and working collaboratively with families to improve communication and leverage existing resources to enhance family functioning. Additionally, Brendan has extensive experience working with individuals of varying abilities, aiding self-advocacy and the implementation of activities of daily living. Passionate about supporting those affected by loss, Brendan has provided group therapy to grieving individuals as a member of the clinical team at Experience Camps for Grieving Children and as a co-facilitator of grief-support groups in coordination with a funeral home in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. During his studies, he completed research on group drumming as an intervention for grief, research he hopes to continue and expand. Previously, Brendan spent over a decade providing recreational group drumming programs to diverse populations, including children, individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and older adults.
