Dr. Bridget Kanz, PsyD

Psychologist
VA
My name is Bridget Kanz, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a PsyD from National Louis University. I believe that every person has the desire and capacity to live a full and healthy life. My goal as a therapist is to provide you with the support and skills needed to realize your potential. My approach My initial training as a therapist was broad but strongest in cognitive behavioral and person-centered approaches. However, my current work is heavily influenced by Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and EMDR as well. My focus I have worked with a wide variety of clients throughout my career and am very comfortable treating many conditions, including anxiety/panic, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, substance use, personality disorders, and depression. My communication style It is extremely important to me that therapy be an emotionally safe space where clients receive the support they need to grow and change. I work to balance validation with education, constructive feedback, and skill building. My journey to therapy I am naturally empathic and have always felt a strong desire to help others, especially those who may be suffering. I spent the first 15 years of my career at a treatment facility for incarcerated individuals, working with people struggling with trauma, serious mental illness, and personality disorders. Currently, I work for the VA, where I am honored to provide mental health services to veterans. My goals for you People who come into treatment often have an idea of how they want their life to look differently. My job as a therapist is to help identify the steps that might help make progress on their path to change. My first session with you During the first session, I give clients space to share their story. I want to fully understand what has brought them to seek help and what they may have already tried.
