Getting to know Candice Williams

It is my belief that therapy is about meeting people where they are, whatever that looks like, and helping them get to the place where they want to be. When working with a client, I focus on building a connection to grow the therapeutic relationship to a place where growth and change can be easily facilitated. Through collaborative efforts combined with genuineness and commitment, I believe that client goals can be attained. Becoming a counselor has been a lifelong goal for me. Growing up in a small South Mississippi town, I found that people hardly ever sought help. Seeing this need in both my community and the world led me to pursue counseling psychology. I earned both my Bachelor's degree and my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from William Carey University. The opportunity to show people that they are not alone in this world is something I pray for constantly. It would be my absolute privilege to work with you to find joy, peace, healing, strength, passion, or even hope in this life. My free time consists of reading, making amateur art, and eating anything sweet. I enjoy meeting new people and hanging out with my cat Jeremy while watching a good Netflix original. I also attend a local church where I get to sing in the choir and play the clarinet in the orchestra.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is straightforward and challenging while also being caring and supportive. I strive to facilitate a safe environment and strong therapeutic relationship that allows clients to feel that they can tackle their goals and create meaningful change in their lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My theoretical orientation hits between reality therapy and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). This allows me to walk the line between helping my clients accept themselves while also understanding that they should strive to be better. Techniques from both of these schools of therapy work to help clients figure out exactly what they want or need and how they can get it.
