Carllee Hitt, MA

Psychotherapist
3900 University Dr, Ste 130, Fairfax, VA
I am a licensed therapist who works with children, teens, and adults across a wide range of concerns including anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, and life transitions. I take a warm, collaborative approach to therapy and genuinely believe that the right therapeutic relationship can be transformative at any age. Whether I am working with a 3-year-old in the sandtray, coaching a parent through PCIT, or sitting with an adult who is ready to understand themselves more deeply, my goal is always the same, to create a space where real, lasting change becomes possible.

Getting to know Carllee Hitt

I am a licensed therapist who works with children, teens, and adults across a wide range of concerns including anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, and life transitions. I take a warm, collaborative approach to therapy and genuinely believe that the right therapeutic relationship can be transformative at any age. Whether I am working with a 3-year-old in the sandtray, coaching a parent through PCIT, or sitting with an adult who is ready to understand themselves more deeply, my goal is always the same, to create a space where real, lasting change becomes possible.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My first priority is making sure every client (and every family) feels genuinely safe, comfortable, and welcomed from the very first session. With children, I never rush the process. If one-on-one feels like too much at first, parents are always welcome to join until your child feels ready to work independently. With teens and adults, I offer a warm and collaborative space where you can slow down, turn inward, and begin to understand yourself more deeply. I believe that understanding why we think, feel, and respond the way we do is just as important as learning new ways to navigate it. I will guide you through that process with warmth and care, gently challenging you forward when you are ready. Parents are also an essential part of the process when working with children, and I collaborate closely with families to make sure the growth happening in the therapy room is supported at home too.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach looks a little different depending on who I am working with. With children, I begin with child-centered play therapy, letting your child take the lead while I follow their cues and build trust. As our relationship develops I gradually shift toward a more directive approach, blending skill-building with play so your child always maintains a sense of choice and control. For children ages 2 to 7, I am trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) — a hands-on approach where I coach you live during sessions as you interact with your child, so you leave each session with tools you can use at home that same day. With teens and adults, our sessions may weave in somatic and mindfulness techniques, parts work (IFS), and CBT skill-building depending on what feels most relevant to your goals. I tailor the approach to you because no two people arrive at therapy the same way, and no two paths through it should look the same either.
