What should a new client know about working with you?

I particularly excel in working with individuals whose behavior is viewed by others as challenging or who are often given negative consequences for their choices. I work with children, young adults, adults, families, and parents/caregivers who struggle with emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and self-esteem issues. I use a CBT, strength-based and solution-focused approach, which leads to individuals feeling encouraged and excited about their futures. Individuals with whom I work tell me that my approach of looking at the whole picture allows them to feel connected, accepted, and open to support that will help them thrive. I believe in the importance of acknowledging the impact of different systems in the therapy process. My 20 year plus experience working with families, communities, and school systems adds value to the sessions. It guides how I address concerns and create plans that help individuals feel successful in every area of their lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When working with individuals, I follow the mantra of “meet people where they are.” That means I will not put unrealistic expectations on an individual or place judgment on a choice. I will listen, provide insight and connections on what is shared, and work with individuals on meeting agreed-upon treatment goals. Individuals can expect sessions to include strategies and interventions to reach goals. This could include homework or trying a strategy to address a problem. My client population includes children, adolescents, young adults, adults and families.
