Georgia O'Keeffe once said, "To create one's own world in any of the arts takes courage.” I know how overwhelming life’s challenges can feel, especially when navigating identity, trauma, and personal growth. As a board-certified art therapist and licensed counselor, I help adolescents and adults reconnect with themselves through Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, psychodynamic techniques, and creative practices—all with an intersectionality- and trauma- informed approach. Before opening my private practice in 2014, I worked in schools, hospitals, artist studios, and outpatient facilities, gaining extensive experience in trauma-informed care. From 2007-2014, I trained at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington (PIW), working with individuals with PTSD and trauma-related disorders. Throughout my career, I’ve been deeply committed to supporting Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) facing race-based stress and trauma. I’ve co- facilitated groups for BIPOC women on race, gender, and generational trauma, and I enjoy collaborating with students and new clinicians through supervision as an Art Therapy Clinical Supervisor (ATCS) and DC/Maryland-approved supervisor for LGPCs. My approach to therapy has evolved to include holistic healing practices, incorporating my training in IFS (Level 1), yoga (RYT-200), Reiki Master Teacher (Usui Shiki Ryoho), Somatic Experiencing, and MARI (Mandala Assessment Research Instrument). Currently, I’m writing a chapter for an art therapy book and developing a blog through Psychology Today called “Communal Healing.”

What should a new client know about working with you?

Welcome. I’m glad you’re here. Reaching out for support can feel like a big step. Whether you’re navigating something recent or carrying long-standing experiences, therapy offers a space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of what you’re going through. My goal is to create an environment where you feel seen, respected, and supported in your full identity. I am a licensed professional counselor and board-certified art therapist with experience across inpatient, outpatient, and trauma-focused settings. I work with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, stress, identity exploration, life transitions, and relationship challenges. My approach is rooted in the belief that people are not problems to be fixed—many patterns are adaptive responses shaped by life experiences. Our work together focuses on understanding these patterns with curiosity and compassion, creating space for meaningful change. I specialize in supporting clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, as well as those exploring identity, purpose, and belonging. I also bring a culturally responsive lens, recognizing how systemic and identity-based experiences shape mental health. As an art therapist, I may incorporate creative expression to help access and process emotions beyond words, though sessions can also be entirely talk-based. My integrative approach includes trauma-informed care, somatic awareness, relational frameworks, and parts-based work. Together, we may explore past experiences, build tools for managing stress, and shift patterns that no longer serve you. My style is warm, thoughtful, and direct, balancing support with meaningful insight. Therapy is collaborative and moves at your pace. You don’t need to have everything figured out to begin—this can simply be a place to start.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to therapy is collaborative, engaged, and tailored to your needs. I strive to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and able to be honest, while also supporting meaningful growth. Clients often experience my style as warm, grounded, and direct. I listen closely, reflect patterns, and offer insights or gentle challenges when helpful. You can expect therapy to be active and intentional. Early sessions focus on understanding what brings you in and identifying your goals, while allowing space for flexibility as your needs evolve. Some sessions may center on processing emotions and experiences, while others focus on practical tools for managing stress, anxiety, or relationships. My clinical approach is integrative and trauma-informed. I draw from somatic therapy, relational and attachment-based work, and parts-based approaches such as Internal Family Systems. I also incorporate cognitive and mindfulness-based strategies to support awareness and regulation. As a board-certified art therapist, I may include art therapy interventions to help access and process experiences beyond words, though this is always optional. Together, we may explore how past experiences shape current patterns, how your body responds to stress, and how different aspects of yourself hold different emotions or needs. Treatment may include grounding techniques, emotional regulation skills, boundary work, and shifting unhelpful patterns. I also approach therapy through a culturally responsive and identity-aware lens. I recognize how race, culture, gender, and systemic experiences influence mental health and relationships, and I practice with cultural humility and openness to your lived experience. Therapy moves at your pace. My role is to support both insight and change—helping you better understand yourself while building tools to navigate your life with more clarity, intention, and balance.
