What should a new client know about working with you?

Our practice name is Roots and Branches Therapy. After you book your initial therapy session on ZocDoc you will get a call, email, or text from our team to schedule a 15-minute informational appointment with a member of the leadership team in our practice. The purpose of this appointment is to (1) ensure we are able to provide the services you are looking for, (2) discuss insurance/financial questions, (3) decide if you will meet in-person or via telehealth. Our leadership team will also answer any questions you have. After your informational appointment, we will then send you intake documents via our portal that must be completed before your first session with your therapist

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session with all our therapists will be approximately 60-minutes and every weekly session thereafter will be 45 minutes. For individuals, our therapists will begin by taking your life history to better understand the context for your current goals and challenges. Over the next few weeks, you and your therapist will decide upon your goals for treatment. Each week, you will have the opportunity to process traumas, share challenges you are facing, celebrate victories, learn tools/techniques and strategize/role-play how to use them. Over time, your therapist will offer insights into your behaviors, validate your emotions, and help you become more connected, more effective, and less symptomatic. Couples therapy is a similar process with a few exceptions in the intake process. Couples will meet for 1 (occasionally 2) sessions where they will share their history as a couple. After the first session, you will complete a Gottman couples assessment online that will help us quickly identify your strengths and challenges as a couple. In the next two sessions, your therapist will meet with each member of the couple individually to take their life history and understand the relationship in the context of their individual story. In the fourth session, you will review the results of the assessment and any insights your therapist has based on the prior sessions. Together, you will prioritize where to focus treatment. Each week, you will address current/past hurts/challenges as well as learn and practice skills to help you cope with them.
