Getting to know Christine Barnes

Hello, I'm Christine. You've taken the first BIG step in growing and healing yourself, and I commend you for your courage. I view counseling as a process of positive continued growth and bravery. Therapy can enrich your life and open doors to witness the progress of your physical, spiritual, relational, and mental well-being, which can be truly restorative. Entering into counseling shows willpower, strength, and incredible courage. It can help uncover powerful abilities while providing useful strategies to enhance them. Together, we can work on lowering your depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, and, if you are on the spectrum, we can focus on acceptance and reducing social anxiety. I hail from Richmond, VA, and initially pursued art and design at Virginia Commonwealth University. Later, I earned my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University. My therapeutic foundation is built on a non-judgmental basis, empathy, and trust. I follow the Person-Centered Therapy approach and integrate CBT, DBT, and Art Therapy methodologies into my practice. Additionally, I offer EMDR sessions and am certified by EMDRIA. I specialize in a variety of areas including ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum support, depression, family relationships, grief and bereavement, life transitions, military and veteran support, narcissistic personality disorder, PTSD, spirituality, stress, trauma, anger management, antisocial behavior, eating disorders, intimate and romantic relationships, borderline personality disorder, children's mental and behavioral health, and dissociative disorders. On a personal note, I am a pet lover and share my home with a cat and a dog. I have also navigated the challenges of a high-conflict divorce and past parental alienation, experiences that have shaped my empathy and understanding. I authored a guidebook for women going through divorce and healing, which you can find at AHeartsBetrayal.com. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
