Getting to know Cindy Aguilar

Hello, my name is Cindy, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of New Jersey. I earned my Master's in Counseling from Montclair State University. I have abundant experience that I have garnered over eight years serving the community. I have been involved diligently in empowering individuals dealing with trauma, mental health illnesses, and anxiety. I have witnessed individuals reach their full potential, and the resilience they show is truly admirable. This contributes to my continued dedication in this field. My objective is to guide, direct, and even challenge you for you to reach your therapy goals. By taking a holistic approach to therapy, I want to work with my clients as a team to achieve the desired goals set by them. The provider is a “Licensed Professional Counselor" and their license number is 37PC00784500.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My counseling approach is rooted in a holistic approach, tailored to align with your personal aspirations and the path to achieving them. Core therapeutic techniques I utilize, include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solutions-focused therapy, and Positive Psychology. Fundamental to my treatment protocols are relaxation techniques, self-care skills, and psychoeducation and aimed at helping the individual understand their emotions and help to equip them with the tools necessary to help reach their full potential. When I am not working, I am enjoying some down time watching documentaries on any historical or scientific topic you can think of! I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music and reading books based on science fiction or re reading the Harry Potter books. I am a big fanatic of boxing and enjoy watching big events that relate to that sport. I also enjoy baking, and trying new recipes, although I have a long way to go to become a great cook. It is a fact that every one of us will face challenges in life, but we don’t have to face them alone! My goal is to build a therapeutic relationship in which my sincere passion to help others is felt and seen.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Going through therapy with a therapist can be a very beneficial experience for individuals who want to work through their mental health challenges and improve their overall well-being. Here are some steps you can take to make the most of your therapy experience: - Find the right therapist: The first step is to find a therapist who is a good fit for you. Look for someone who specializes in the type of issues you want to address and whose style matches your preferences. I hope I can be that person for you. - Set clear goals: It's important to have clear goals for therapy so that you and I are on the same page. In our first session, we will discuss your goals and work together to create a treatment plan that outlines the steps you will take to achieve those goals. - Try to be open and honest with me about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I am here to help you, and I can only do so if I have a clear understanding of what's going on. - Trust the process: Therapy can be a long process, and it's important to trust that the work you're doing with me will pay off in the end. It's also important to be patient and not expect instant results. - Practice self-care: In addition to attending therapy sessions, it's important to practice self-care on a regular basis. This may include activities such as exercise, meditation, or spending time with loved ones. - Keep an open mind: Finally, it's important to keep an open mind and be willing to try new things. As your therapist, I may suggest different techniques or approaches that you haven't tried before, and it's important to be receptive to these suggestions. Remember, therapy is a collaborative process between you and me, so be sure to communicate your thoughts and concerns along the way. With the right mindset and a willingness to work, therapy can be a transformative experience that helps you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life.
