Psychotherapist

Hello, I'm Cynthia, a Richmond-based licensed professional counselor with over 20 years of experience working with individuals and families in community mental health settings and the military. As a proud military retiree, I have a deep passion for supporting military members and truly understand the unique culture and stressors they face. My extensive work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities has been incredibly rewarding, and I am committed to helping people navigate challenging life issues impacted by trauma, marginalization, and lack of autonomy. I specialize in treating depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, attachment issues, chronic stress, and ADHD. My approach is grounded in Somatic Experiencing (SE), a trauma modality that gently releases bound trauma in the nervous system. Through body-based interventions, I help clients resolve symptoms of trauma by supporting and releasing nervous system patterning. SE is particularly effective for chronic stress and pain, anxiety, hypervigilance, depression, ADHD, early attachment problems, and enhancing body awareness. In addition to SE, I am skilled in using bottom-up regulation strategies, incorporating expressive arts and play to address issues that benefit from right-brain processes, rather than traditional cognitive models of therapy. I believe that therapy serves as a guide to help individuals find their own path to healing. Partnering with my clients on their journey toward self-discovery and healing brings me immense satisfaction. If you're ready to embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery, I would be honored to support you. Let's work together to find the answers that lie within you.
