Getting to know Denise Hooks
Hi, I’m Denise, she/they, and I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor, Healer, Plant Medicine student, and Wellness practitioner. I have been a local to Las Vegas since my youth and have dedicated my professional endeavors to giving back to the Las Vegas community through mental health and criminal justice reform. Working in Nevada for more than 7 years has afforded me experiences that have been essential in developing the foundation of my knowledge and skill set in therapy and healing our bodies.
My therapeutic practice is founded in Collectivism and includes working with individuals, families, couples, groups, and children. I specialize in trauma prevention, intervention, and processing where we heal from the dehumanizing effects of colonization, imperialism, state-sanctioned violence, and systemic oppression by utilizing expressive therapeutic tools such as Narrative, Art, Yoga, Plant Medicine, Play, Herbal Remedies, Visualization, Parts and Memory Therapy, and Somatic Experiencing (SE). Together we decolonize everything mental health and heal holistically by reacquainting ourselves with body and earth’s medicine. We deconstruct layers of programming surrounding our mental health and heal Self along the way. This is the space where everyone can heal.
I believe in the importance of establishing safe and authentic connections with others, and I focus on retrieving Parts of the Soul that have been lost to traumatic events. Each person’s unique identity can be known only through relationships with others. Utilizing these relationships as a tool of reflection along with healing transgenerational trauma assists individuals in stepping into the meaning of life. Come open, Leave free.
