Getting to know Dennis Haynes
I think therapy provides us with the opportunity to look inward and take the time we need to evaluate what we really want out of life. As an LGBT person, I know firsthand the challenges our community experiences, as well as how these challenges can create barriers and cause suffering. I have personally found therapy to be very helpful in creating a safe space to explore the impact of these experiences on who we are today, gain perspective, and learn tools to improve our well-being. I help clients explore the intersectionality of our multiple identities, including sexual orientation, gender, and ethnicity/culture. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bradley University, which has equipped me with the skills to support clients in these areas with empathy and understanding.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I strive to make my sessions with clients a safe, warm environment where they can genuinely express themselves without judgement. My doors are open to clients of all gender, sexual orientation, and racial/ethnic identities, and as a member of the LGBT community I understand the importance of recognizing how our individual cultural experiences affect our mental health. If you are an individual who is looking for change and movement in your life, I would value the opportunity to use my knowledge and skills to help you implement that change.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
My process is to work with you as a collaborator to help navigate through the many experiences we have faced and explore how these experiences of suffering can help propel us to have a more meaningful life. I look forward to being a part of your journey.
