Psychotherapist
VA
Hello, I'm Derrick, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with 30 years of experience dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families find the happiness and harmony they seek. It's been my honor to provide guidance and support to clients navigating some of the hardest experiences in their lives. My therapeutic approach is client and solution-focused, utilizing a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychodynamic Therapy. I believe in tailoring my methods to fit each client's unique needs, ensuring a personalized and effective therapy experience. I hold a Bachelor's degree from East Carolina University and a Master's of Social Work from Norfolk State University. Over the years, I have developed a deep understanding of various complex life situations, including major mental health diagnoses such as PTSD, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety. My experience extends to working with military families, active duty members, and their spouses. Growing up as an Army dependent, serving four years in the Navy, and being a Navy dependent spouse for six years has given me a first-hand understanding of military culture and the unique challenges it presents. In addition to my work with military families, I have spent over 15 years assisting families with children who have ADHD, behavioral, and emotional problems. My private practice experience has primarily focused on helping individuals through marital discord, infidelity, divorce and separation, depression, anxiety, and family stressors. When you work with me, you can expect a compassionate and supportive environment where we will work together to find solutions that work best for you. Whether you're dealing with stress, trauma, relationship issues, or navigating a significant life transition, I'm here to help you every step of the way. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and support you on your journey to well-being.
