“I had my first session with Deshaun, and it was an incredibly positive experience. From the start of the session, he created a safe and welcoming space where I felt comfortable opening up. Even in one visit, his empathy, professionalism, and attentive listening made a real difference.
It was also deeply impactful to meet with a Black male counselor. Representation matters, and seeing someone who reflects my identity brought an added layer of trust and understanding to the session. His presence reminded me how important it is to have diverse voices in counseling, and it made me feel seen in a way that was both affirming and empowering.
If you’re looking for a counselor who combines compassion, insight, and the power of representation, I highly recommend this counselor. My first impression was excellent, and I’m looking forward to continuing this journey.

DeShaun Reid is a caring and down-to-earth Mental Health Counselor who believes that everyone deserves a safe space to feel heard, understood, and supported. He earned both his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and his Bachelor’s in Psychology from Lehman College, where he graduated cum laude.
DeShaun works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families, helping them navigate life’s ups and downs with greater confidence and self-awareness. His therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in compassion. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy, he helps clients explore their emotions, build resilience, and find new ways of relating to themselves and others.
Before becoming a counselor, DeShaun worked as a Neuropsychologist Assistant and Independent Living Skills Trainer, supporting individuals recovering from brain injuries and emotional trauma. These experiences shaped his deep appreciation for the connection between the mind, body, and emotions—and the incredible capacity people have to heal and grow.
DeShaun sees therapy as a shared journey of understanding and self-discovery. With empathy and curiosity, he helps clients recognize the patterns that influence their lives and supports them in creating meaningful, lasting change.
