Destiny Perkins, LMSW, MSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I am a Licensed Master Social Worker with a background in social work, youth development, case management, and supportive services. My experience has centered on helping individuals navigate life transitions, emotional challenges, relationships, education, employment, and other barriers that can impact their overall well-being. I am passionate about creating a space where clients feel comfortable being honest, exploring their experiences, and working toward meaningful change. My clinical approach is client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. I believe that each person brings their own experiences, strengths, and challenges into therapy, so I tailor my approach to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. I especially enjoy working with young adults and individuals who are navigating transitions, building self-confidence, managing stress, or trying to better understand themselves and their relationships.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you can expect a supportive, judgment-free, and collaborative space where you can be yourself and feel heard. I believe therapy is not about telling you what you “should” do, but about working together to better understand what you are experiencing, identify your strengths, and develop tools that feel realistic and meaningful for your life. I take the time to understand each person as an individual and tailor our work to their needs, goals, and comfort level . I may ask thoughtful questions, offer different perspectives, and provide practical strategies when appropriate, but you will always have a voice in the direction of therapy. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling supported, understood, and more equipped to navigate whatever challenges brought you to therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and learning about your goals, concerns, and experiences. During our initial sessions, we will talk about what you would like support with and, when appropriate, explore your history and current circumstances to develop a better understanding of your needs. I may use the information we discuss to identify patterns, strengths, and areas that may benefit from additional support. Sessions will primarily involve talk therapy and guided conversation. Depending on your needs and goals, I may incorporate reflection, therapeutic questions, coping strategies, practical tools, and other interventions that can help you better understand and manage what you are experiencing. I believe therapy should be collaborative, so we will regularly check in about your progress and adjust our work as needed. There is no expectation that you have everything figured out when you begin—therapy is a space where we can work through things together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
