Getting to know Edith Alvarez

The provider is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and is currently working under the supervision of Clinical Supervisor: Amy Cortez, LCSW 118313. I believe therapy is not about fixing people, but about helping them reconnect with their inner strengths and potential.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My clinical work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Narrative Therapy. I value CBT for its structured and practical tools, DBT for its emphasis on emotion regulation and mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy for the way it empowers clients to re-author their stories and separate themselves from problems. Cultural Aspects & Intersectionality I approach therapy with cultural humility and an awareness of intersectionality. I recognize that every client’s identity is shaped by multiple cultural, social, and personal factors, and I make space to honor those experiences in the room. I see culture not as a barrier, but as a resource for resilience and meaning. View of the Client / Therapist Relationship I believe the client-therapist relationship is a partnership. I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative environment where clients feel both supported and empowered. Trust and authenticity are at the core of this relationship, and I work to meet clients where they are rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all approach. Goals for Clients "My ultimate goal is to help clients build insight, strengthen coping strategies, and experience growth in ways that feel authentic to them. Whether someone is navigating addiction, relationships, adolescence, or family dynamics, I want them to leave therapy with tools, self-awareness, and a sense of agency in their lives.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

How I help... I’d like clients to know that I’m collaborative, non-judgmental, and flexible in my style. I use approaches like CBT, DBT, and Narrative Therapy to provide practical skills for daily life while also giving room to explore identity, culture, and personal values. My goal is to support you in developing insight, resilience, and confidence in your ability to create meaningful change. What it's like in session with me... My sessions are collaborative and down-to-earth. You can expect a safe space where you feel heard and supported, with the balance of lightness and honesty. It may feel like a natural chat at times, but I’ll also guide us toward identifying patterns, practicing new skills, and working through the things that matter most to you.
